NOVEMBER 2004:
National Home Care Month, National Hospice Month Celebrate America's Caregivers
More
than 7.5 million Americans receive health care in their homes each day from nearly one million caregivers. Each November,
the National Association for Home Care & Hospice celebrates National Home Care Month and National Hospice Month to honor
these caregiving heroes who make such a difference in the lives of others. "Helping frail, disabled and dying Americans to
stay independent and happy in their homes is our goal," said Val J. Halamandaris, president of NAHC. "Home care professionals
and volunteers, along with modern medicine and technology, make it possible for sick citizens to be surrounded by their loved
ones and precious mementoes as they live their best quality of life." NAHC has developed three nationwide campaigns--titled
“Home Care: The Center of Health Care in America,” “Home Care Aides: Answering the Prayers of Others,”
and “Hospice: Celebrating Life to its Fullest”--to help recognize and applaud home care and hospice caregivers
during this important month...Miss Douglas County 2005, Mary Bosshardt is currently contacting several Hospice organizations
to lend her support.
